The brief was to create a bespoke piece of lighting artwork for the restaurant of an art led boutique hotel. The narrative led to the crystal structure of one of a chef's most universal ingredients, salt.

The face centred cubic structure of the sodium chloride crystal lent itself beautifully to a dynamic lighting installation, with the six central bonds of each sodium ion highlighted using digital pixel LED.

Twelve crystals, each a cubic metre, were suspended above the restaurant, made up of nearly two and a half thousand individually addressable LEDs, capable of both gently evolving ambient patterns and full visual shows.

Now the centrepiece of the restaurant, it continues to captivate guests today.
